Total Hip Replacement is a joint replacement procedure, where the femur (thighbone head) is completely removed and replaced in patients commonly affected by osteoarthritis of the hip. Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteonecrosis, or other injuries not only cause pain between joints due to the depletion of the joint surfaces, but also limit mobility. While mild cases of hip arthritis can be treated by the less invasive medications and/or physical therapy, more advanced cases, need a surgical treatment.
With an increase in advancement of surgical procedures, ‘bloodless surgery’, a surgery that involves no use of blood products or blood transfusion is much sought after. Bloodless procedures are effectively used in surgeries like a total hip replacement, which are generally treated in typical as well as minimally invasive surgeries. Bloodless surgery results in reduced hospital costs, shorter recovery periods, and also reduces the risk of possible infections due to the absence of blood transfusions.
