A 51 year old patient from the African sub-continent suffering from recurrent hemoptysis for the past year, was successfully operated upon in a right upper lobectomy by the well acclaimed CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgeons Prof. Dr. Pittambar Shatapathy, and ace Cardiac surgeon Dr. Jayarama Pai at Wockhardt Hospitals. Due to hemoptysis, the patient had been coughing out blood in sputum since the last one year, bringing out nearly 5-100 ml blood in each episode. He had previously (10 years ago) suffered from lung tuberculosis and had undergone treatment for 6 months.
Investigations of a chest X-Ray, bronchoscopy and a Thorax CT scan revealed a mass in the right upper lobe of the lungs, indicating a right upper lobe cavity fungal ball, also known as Aspergilloma. Right upper lobectomy, like all other lobar resections, needs an experienced surgeon to perform the surgery, and Prof. Dr. Pittambar Shatapathy with over four decades of experience and proficiency in the surgery of oesophagus, trachea and lungs, aorta and major blood vessels was rightly-abled to carry out this surgery. “Many lung diseases are totally curable if diagnosed and treated early in the appropriate way.
This particular patient also recovered well, and is now leading a normal life”, said Prof. Dr. P Shatapathy. An added asset to the surgery was the presence of highly skilled Consultant Anaesthetists, Dr. Manish Sharma and Dr. Nirav Parikh; and Assistant Cardiac Surgeon, Dr. Manish Tiwari. “Wockhardt hospitals’ global quality care deliverance is an asset to patients worldwide. The Super Specialty Cardiac care of Wockhardt is very well established and the team at Wockhardt also holds high expertise in the field of lung surgery.
