Dr. Ramen Goel a pioneer laparoscopy surgeon, trained hundreds of surgeons in safe laparoscopy as a Professor of Surgery at Grant Medical College, Mumbai from 1994-2010. He started bariatric surgery in 2001. Dr. Ramen Goel is a founder member of the Obesity Surgery Society of India affiliated with IFSO. Apart from this, Dr. Ramen Goel is the past President of the All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity (AIAARO) and of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) (2020-2021). Other achievements of Dr. Ramen Goel include a Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (FRCS) in 2020, a Fellowship by the Obesity Surgery Society of India (FMBS) in 2020, and a Fellowship by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons in 2021. Dr. Raman Goel is the Founder Editor of the Journal of Bariatric Surgery (JBS), Associate Editor of the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery (JMAS), and Editorial Board Member of the Indian Journal of Surgery. He is also a member of the specialist board of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) ). Dr. Ramen Goel is the Organizing Chairman of Indo-UK Surgicon to be held in Edinburgh, UK in October 2023 and Scientific Chairman of the World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery to be held in Kolkata in 2024.
Dr. Ramen Goel has been awarded many awards and honors for doing amazing work in the field of Bariatric and Diabetes Surgery. some of which we would like to talk about Dr. Raman Goel was awarded the Late Vandana Bambawala Oration Award in 2013. Also, the Stanley Surgery Professors Oration Award is also in his name. Dr. Ramen Goel also holds the title of the 1st Indian Surgeon of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation, USA.
