A 50-year-old lady suffering from Lung cancer survived the battle against death at Wockhardt Hospitals in Nagpur.

In her treatment for cancer, she responded very well to treatment. But She developed difficulty in swallowing due to narrowing in the esophagus (food pipe).

To relieve this esophagus metallic stent was placed in a food pipe across the narrowing outside. After stenting, she was having a cough whenever she was swallowing. Dr. Piyush Marudwar did a Gastrograffin study.

It is a special type of x-ray done after swallowing liquid contrast material. It was found that there is Communication between Trachea and Esophagus (Tracheo-Esophageal Fistula), Contrast which was swallowed was going from the Food pipe into the respiratory tract. Dr. Piyush Marudwar, who is a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist, and Advanced endoscopist, covered fistula with fully covered self-expandable metal stent covered stent always has a risk of migration downwards to prevent that it was fixed using newer over the scope stent Called Stent fix clip. This kind of procedure is done only 2nd time in Central India.

She was able to swallow after this procedure. After supportive treatment, she improved and was discharged.
