Dr Imran Shaikh has more than 10 years of experience in the fields of Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. He specializes in the management of complex diseases of the abdomen (GI and HPB surgeries, GI cancers and Liver transplants). He is proficient in performing Minimal Access and Advanced Laparoscopic surgeries as well as open abdomen surgeries.

He has a number of research presentations, publications to his credit. He has been awarded the B Braun Medal and Scholarship for achievers in the field of GI surgery.

He is fellowship trained in HPB surgeries, Gastrointestinal cancers, Liver Transplants from the Freeman Institute, Newcastle, United Kingdom.

Patient cured of vomiting blood for 25 years with a rare surgery for an uncommon condition.

"A 40 year old patient was admitted to the Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road. He was suffering from a general bleeding in his gastrointestinal tract since 15 years. The patient bleeding was profuse and required blood transfusion at very occasion. The patient would be admitted accordingly in various centres in his hometown. During one of the transfusion the patient contracted Hepatitis B. The situation of the patient was grave. Patient had undergone splenectomy and later was diagnosed with severe liver disease. He left his job and stopped all activities. He became very anxious and was advised to go to Wockhardt Hospital for liver transplant. Dr Imran Shaikh consultant GI and hepatobiliary and onco-surgeon handled his case and determined after a complete diagnostic evaluation the patient did not have any liver failure. Patient was diagnosed of suffering a rare disease. Patient underwent a surgery as a one stop treatment and did not require a blood transfusion. The shunt surgery was successful. After six months patient even resumed his job. He was grateful to Dr Shaikh, whose clinical acumen and diagnosis was able to cure the patient once and for all."

An accidental life threatening pancreatic injury managed by an emergency surgery saved the life of a young patient

"A 17 year old male patient was brought to emergency department at Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road .He had been hit by a fast moving vehicle two days back. He was admitted prior to a nursing home after the accident but showed signs of deterioration. His CT scan showed a massive pancreatic injury and needed specialised care. When the patient came to the hospital emergency doctors and staff assessed the case and found the patient to be severely dehydrated, with infection in the abdomen cavity, high pulse rate and severe abdominal pain. Patient was immediately resuscitated and given emergency medical treatment antibiotics and fluids. Dr Imran Shaikh consultant GI and hepatobiliary and oncosurgeon, examined the case and an emergency laparotomy was done on the patient. Patient recovered well after surgery. Thanks to Wockhardt hospital, Mira Road efficient emergency medical services management and Dr Imran Shaik the patient was saved."
