The most common non-communicable disease affecting India today is Diabetes Mellitus. It is a metabolic disorder, in which an individual has an increased level of blood sugar.

As per research, it currently affects an estimated 143 million people worldwide and the number is growing rapidly.

In India, about 5 percent of the population suffers from diabetes. Diabetes can be regarded as a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with the disease.

Haematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to the blood. It involves diagnosing and further management of diseases that affect the production of blood and its components, such as blood cells, hemoglobin, blood proteins, bone marrow, platelets, blood vessels, spleen, and the mechanism of coagulation.

A few of these different types of blood conditions that are looked at include anaemia, thalassemia, haemophilia, general blood clots, bleeding disorders, blood cancers etc.

Heart disease is any condition that affects the structure or function of the heart. High blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and smoking are key risk factors for heart disease. About half of Indians have at least one of these three risk factors.

The human heart is an organ that pumps blood throughout the body via the circulatory system, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide and other wastes.

The heart has four chambers. The upper two chambers are called the atria, whereas the lower two chambers are known as the ventricles. The right atrium and right ventricle are referred to as the right heart, whereas the left atrium and left ventricle are referred to as the left heart. The various chambers of the heart are separated by partitions, each of which is called a septum.
