The septum is that vertical wall in your nose that divides it into two nasal passages..Sometimes it is caused by an injury, but most often it has no cause, other than aging. Not many adults have a septum that is straight. If the deviation becomes a problem the ENT can perform a septoplasty.
Septoplasty is the name of the surgery to correct a deviated septum. It is usually done to improve breathing through the nose, but it may also be necessary to allow for an adequate examination of the inside of the nose for the treatment and/or removal of nasal polyps or tumors.
